The Government's Role

Accountability?... Unlikely.

The United States government has created laws over the years in order to help travelers with disabilities. The ADA and ACAA have contributed to helping impaired travelers, yet there has been a considerable lack of enforcing those laws. The U.S. government has turned a blind eye to accessible travel- giving trips and resources to help without tangible efforts to support travelers with disabilities.

What is the Government Saying?

In this informational article the U.S. government lists off loads of advice, precautions and resources for travelers with disabilities. There were numerous tips for travelers who need extra care or special help when traveling. What I liked about this piece was the absence of the phrase ""disabled person" or "disables traveler", which showed a progressive and sensitive approach to the topic. The piece was well organized and the resources plentiful, although its meaning was lost when they added the disclaimer. The addition of the disclaimer made the government free from responsibility to the organizations which they listed for reference, therefore showing that these companies have no regulation or government reinforcement. To appear politically correct, rather than saying it outright, the government showed their lack of concern for people with disabilities. The few laws and regulations placed in the U.S. aren't actually enforced and this disclaimer proves that fact. This article essentially says that the government will not fight for travelers with disabilities.
